Can't Lose Weight? You're Probably Eating More Than You Think.

No, your metabolism isn’t 𝘣𝘳𝘰𝘬𝘦𝘯, you aren’t a 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘴𝘯𝘰𝘸𝘧𝘭𝘢𝘬𝘦, you’re simply human.⁣

People are notoriously incorrect at estimating how much they are eating. ⁣

One seminal study on this topic found that obese adults who claimed to be eating less than 1200 Calories per day and not be losing weight were underreporting by nearly 50%! Other studies have found that normal weight people, athletes included, underestimate by an average of 10–20%.⁣

This isn’t always due to poor tracking on your end, either. The food databases you use could simply be inaccurate. ⁣Maybe you don’t chew your nuts, so you don’t digest them as well as the food database assumes. Maybe you eat your potatoes cold, so they have more resistant starch and less metabolizable energy than your food tracker says.⁣

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴: if you don’t track, you’re probably not estimating your food intake accurately. If you do track, you’re still probably not estimating your food intake accurately.⁣
