The way you communicate with people can really 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦 𝘰𝘳 𝘣𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬 how well your message comes across.
One of the biggest issues many people face is they can’t separate their ideas from who they are as a human. So, whenever you challenge someone’s beliefs, they perceive it as an attack against themselves.
Religion, diet, and politics are all great examples of this. People attach ethics and morality to their beliefs that anyone who disagrees is “𝘦𝘷𝘪𝘭” or a bad human.
𝐄𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞: the pandemic lockdown and requirement for masks. People had beliefs on both sides of the fence regarding the utility and consequences of the pandemic response, but people on both sides would attack the other side as being idiots rather than addressing the arguments put forth.
𝐄𝐱𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞: George Floyd’s death and the response that ensued. Many people argued that systematic racisms exists while others denied it. Both sides put forth evidence, but rather than discuss the merits and positions each side was taking, people just attacked one another as being racist, or dumb, or a lesser human for holding a different belief.
This hostility is 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲 𝐝𝐞𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 to discussions because people who have good input no longer wish to share it in fear of being attacked, or in realization that sharing is pointless.

𝘌𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘺 and 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘪𝘰𝘯 are critical to bring about receptive ears. That can be very difficult to do when someone is attacking you. After all, 𝐨𝐧𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬 𝐢𝐧 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞 𝐢𝐬 𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐥𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐞.
𝐒𝐨𝐦𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐤𝐞𝐞𝐩 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐥𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐨𝐬: you don’t discuss things to change the mind of the other person you are debating with whom holds strong beliefs, especially if they are illogical — but rather, you discuss these sensitive topics to facilitate evolution and change in the minds of those observing.
